What is Tai Chi Chuan?

Tai Chi Chuan is a form of exercise developed by the Chinese, but it is more than just exercise.  Tai Chi in an internal cultural art and is the Chinese path to physical, mental and spiritual fitness.

The art of Tai Chi originated about 500AD and people from all walks of life and all ages have practiced it to promote personal health and tranquility.

What's involved?

Tai Chi Chuan consists of a series of linked slow, flowing, relaxed movements in the form of a moving meditation.

By regular practice you can improve your physical fitness, balance and mental relaxation.  The gentle movements of Tai Chi means that people of any age or condition can practice the art and gain many benefits from it.

How Tai Chi will improve your health.

The movements , although slow, gently tone and strengthen the muscles, improve blood circulation and help relax the mind and body, making Tai Chi an excellent antidote to stress.

Tai Chi for self defence.

Tai Chi is not just an excellent form of exercise it can also be an effective method of self defence.  Although the movements are performed slowly, each posture has a practical self defence application.  You do not need to be strong as Tai Chi does not rely on your personal strength, but on you redirecting your opponent's strength against themselves.

What do I need to do Tai Chi?

All you need is a pair of flat soled trainers and some loose comfortable clothing.
